This post felt like all MY Christmases came at once! I’m going to guess 90mm and 200 mm. (But you didn’t answer why you chose 28mm for your walking around lens. Harder to compose well than with 35mm)
Dang! Sorry I missed that. I find the 28mm focal length suits me best because... instinct really. I find a 35mm slightly too constrictive, especially in tight spaces. I find myself constantly backing up a step or two. 28mm feels more flexible to me, allows me to include more in the frame...
Some might also say that a 28mm image can be cropped to a 35mm equivalent frame but a 35mm image can't be expanded to a 28mm view but I wouldn't endorse relying on cropping. Better to get it right in the camera whenever possible.
But it's really a personal preference and I wouldn't advocate strongly for one focal length over any other. I know some photographers who work exclusively with a 50mm lens. Horses for courses. If you find a 35mm suits you and your style, go with that. Many people say it's the ideal focal length for street photography.
Ah, I get it! Didn’t consider the cropping point. And if you want everything in focus even in low light 28 is the way to go. I’m so grateful I came across your Substack!

I'm so grateful you did too 😊
It's not 90mm and 200mm but that wouldn't be far from what I'd guess — if I didn't know.
